I’m sure you’ve been following this blog series closely as we’ve unpacked the major obstacles every dad faces. As we recap our journey through these six obstacles, we hope you’ve been challenged and encouraged to identify and destroy obstacles that all dads face.

There are at least six obstacles that, if you’re going to be a godly dad, you must identify and destroy.

You’ve probably noticed from the start of this series, we haven’t promised perfection. Heck, our goal is not perfection. We’ve intentionally used the term “great” instead of “perfect”.

What does being a godly dad mean? We believe being a godly dad means intentionally discipling your child.

In this series, we’ve talked about the six major obstacles. We’ve covered how the obstacles sound, how to remove them and how Scripture helps us overcome them.

Let’s recap now with this handy, dandy infographic. You’re welcome. : )

Identify and Destory InfographicThe six most common obstacles are as follows. Feel free to click back and review each post for more details on each obstacle and learn how to be a godly dad. Below, you’ll find the recap:

1 > The Ignorance Obstacle

2 > The Inertia Obstacle

3 > The Delegation Obstacle

4 > The Guilt Obstacle

5 > The Procrastination Obstacle

How the Obstacles Sound

1 > The Ignorance Obstacle sounds like this: “I didn’t know it was my job.”

2 > The Inertia Obstacle sounds like this: “I don’t know where to start.”

3 > The Delegation Obstacle sounds like this: “I’ll let someone else do it.”

4 > The Guilt Obstacle sounds like this: “Who am I to talk?”

5 > The Procrastination Obstacle sounds like this: “I’ve got plenty of time.”

6 > The Despair Obstacle sounds like this: “My kid’s already too far gone.”

How to Remove The Obstacles

1 > The Ignorance Obstacle: Become aware, avoid self-pity and find mentors.

2 > The Inertia Obstacle: Begin somewhere, get accountable and be transparent.

3 > The Delegation Obstacle: Get mentored, audit regularly and capture moments.

4 > The Guilt Obstacle: Be free, own it and do the Gospel pivot.

5 > The Procrastination Obstacle: Create margin, ride along and be alert.

6 > The Despair Obstacle: Resist despair, know God and build bridges.

How Scripture Helps Us Overcome the Obstacles

1 > The Ignorance Obstacle

Listen, my sons, to a father’s discipline; and pay attention so that you may gain understanding, for I am giving you good instruction. Don’t abandon my teaching. —Proverbs 4:1-2

2 > The Inertia Obstacle

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. —John 14:26

3 > The Delegation Obstacle

Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children; but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. —Ephesians 6:4

4 > The Guilt Obstacle

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of like in  Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. —Romans 8:1-2

5 > The Procrastination Obstacle

Therefore it is said: ‘Get up, sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.’ Pay careful, then, how you live—not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil. —Ephesians 5:14-16

6 > The Despair Obstacle

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, and rescues them from all their troubles. The LORD is near the brokenhearted; he saves those who are crushed in spirit. —Psalm 34:17-18
