God cares more about your faithfulness than your perfection. Most dads think they have to be PERFECT. First off, you don’t. Second, you can’t. That concludes this week’s Mountain Monday. You’re welcome. But seriously, what’s better than perfection? FAITHFULNESS. Look at Matthew 25:19-23. Three men and a boss. Two of the men report what they’re originally given, plus 100 percent profit. Five talents from Guy #1 PLUS two talents from Guy #2 equals seven talents. Add 100 percent profit from both guys and that’s 14 talents. Nice return on an investment. 3 things seem to come from faithfulness. #1 Congratulations. Both men got a well done good and faithful servant (Matt. 25:21). The words good and faithful show the men were reliable and loyal. #2 Credibility. Aside from the praise, the two men would be given more responsibility, You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much (Matt. 25:21). They had been faithful with a few things, so he would give them with even more. #3 Celebration. And finally, he invited the men to share in his happiness, or enter in the joy of your master (Matt. 25:21). Don’t miss this: Your boss is God. You may not get these three things in this life, but when God returns, He’ll ask what you’ve done with what He gave you. Work now so you get congrats, credibility, and celebration in Heaven.

FAITHFULNESS TRUMPS PERFECTION EVERY TIME: Men tend to be “doers.” We measure our success—and even our worth—by what we’re able to accomplish. On a scale of 1 to 10, we strive to be an 11. Of course, the chase for perfection is a race we’ll never win. As men of God, we need to realize that the Bible actually puts the focus on being faithful, not being perfect. God knows we’ll drop the ball on occasion. That’s why He honors faithfulness above flawlessness.

“God doesn’t require us to succeed, he only requires that you try.” —Mother Teresa.

“The will of God is not something you add to your life. It’s a course you choose. You either line yourself up with the Son of God…or you capitulate to the principle which governs the rest of the world.” —Elisabeth Elliot.

TAKE ACTION

Return on investment. As a believer/husband/dad, God has blessed you with at least three talents: a relationship with Himself, your wife, and your child. God calls you to make disciples, live with your wife in an understanding way, and guide/train your kid. How’s all that going? Are you showing faithfulness as a follower of God, serving your wife, and teaching your kid? Do you think God will tell you well done good and faithful servant? Faithfulness is following God one step at a time. You won’t get this perfect, but you can’t fail as long as you’re pointing to the One who is faithful.
