We’ve grown so many followers in the last few months, I realize many of you may not know what’s at the core of the Manhood Journey experience. We’re here to help dads build godly men. Here are four things you probably don’t know about our ministry—that you should!
How do we help dads build godly men? Well, we get at this a lot of ways. We offer helpful blog posts (amazing blog posts if you ask me!), eBooks, workshops and retreats—all to help guide you as a dad. But, do you know what’s at our core?
4 things you probably don’t know about Manhood Journey, but should.
1. Manhood Journey is a Bible study.
Manhood Journey is based on the Bible. We believe that everything our young men need to know about biblical manhood is found in Scripture.
We believe the Holy Spirit guides the godly dad to discuss and discover what his son needs at each and every moment. With God’s Word guiding us, we are on firm footing as we build godly men.
We suggest starting discussions with your son about biblical truth using our Embarking 1 on 1 or Embarking Group Guides. But, from there, go where you and your son(s) need the most help. You can learn more about what MJ is and where to start. But for now, know we cover these topics:
- Biblical truth
- Biblical manhood
- Leadership
- Work and responsibility
- Facing temptation
- Purity in all areas of life
- Money and stewardship
2. Manhood Journey is a discussion starter.
We don’t think Manhood Journey has all the answers. Quite the opposite: we have a ton of questions! Our goal is to get fathers comfortable engaging their sons in meaningful conversations. We are not overly concerned with whether you’re perfect or you have a Bible degree or you’re a gifted communicator.
At MJ, we just want discussions to begin and then continue—intentionally. We hope that most groups go through a few guides then veer “off course” into content what is unique to their situation. We are your biblical fatherhood guides.
3. Manhood Journey is a commitment.
Here’s the fine print! Intentionally discipling your son will take time. We’ve talked about how much time discipling your son will take. We provide you with 1 on 1 Guides—that you can use just for you and your son. And, we have Group Guides—for you to connect in a small group of dads and sons.
Groups typically consist of 4 to 8 dads, who each bring a son (or sons) with them. They usually meet in 6-week sprints, with discussions guided by the Manhood Journey Guides. The young men are normally between the ages of 8 and 18, depending on each group’s unique situation. Imagine a small group of dads and sons—maybe 8-12 guys total—talking about life together!
4.Manhood Journey is not rocket science.
One underlying pillar of MJ: you CAN lead your son. Sure, it helps if we have some experience handling a Bible, but the only real prerequisite is a desire to disciple your son. We tell you want to say and when to say it in our guides. If you’re starting a group, just grab our free Leader Survival Guide that’ll equip you do to the rest.
Understand, whether you know it or not, you’re in a battle. Kent, myself, the MJ board, we understand as husbands, fathers and leaders, we are in a battle. The battle doesn’t stop because you’re tired or busy. In fact, the battles magnifies when you’re busy and tired. Biblical fatherhood never ends. We’re right here with you.
