LOOKING UP
Ephesians 2:10 says we are created for, “good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (NIV) As a dad, we might think of these “good works” as jobs we do. Careers, volunteer positions or even taking care of things around the house. Those matter, but I think some of the most important good works we do are not physical or career related. They’re relational, and they involve those living under our own roof. How we love and serve our wives. How we lead and disciple our children. These are GOOD works! And, you might feel unskilled, unqualified or unable to do these effectively. Speaking biblically, perish the thought! Note who prepared them for you to do. God Himself. He prepared them. He knew precisely who to give your good works to, he delivered the supplies (one of which, the Holy Spirit within you!) and has given you the instruction manual (the Bible). You are equipped, supplied, instructed and infilled. Now, keep up the good work!

Like father, like son: How to pass faith to your children: Want to pass your faith to your children? Pray with them. Prayer is something we are taught. We learn it by watching and listening to others. Ask your kids how you can pray for them. Let them hear you talk to the LORD on their behalf. Show them how to have conversations with their Creator.

Good works. What are those good works God has given you to do? A marriage to cultivate? Children to disciple? A business to lead? That gift to steward? Spend a few minutes this week asking God to reveal those to you. (Hint: start with loving the people in your own family, that’s one I know he’s given you and me). Even thinking about our good works is, in itself, a good work.
