LOOKING UP

Have you ever tried – in vain! – to get your children to listen to your instruction? Proverbs 13:1 says, “A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes.” As a father of five boys, I’ve mentioned this verse countless times. However, it’s essential that I remember: I too am a son. I have a heavenly father who’s continually trying to give me instruction. Do I listen? Do I heed His instruction? Am I modeling this well?

JUST POSTED

Culture shouts out to us, “Greed is good.” Most of us are running around with only one goal—to get MORE. What should we do as godly dads? We are to show our wife, kids, and those around us—something different. How we steward resources can point a watching world to God or away from Him. Read The truth about stewarding resources as a dad.

ALONG THE TRAIL

1. Speaking of being a son, join me on Facebook live this week with Pioneer Bible Translators. We’ll talk about Eli and how he “honored” his sons more than God. Wednesday March 10, 1p-2p EST. Learn more.

2. Priorities. Carey Nieuwhof shares 7 myths about time. He hit me between the eyes with, “Stop asking yourself how to be more efficient. Start asking yourself how to be more effective.” Our eBook on this can help you balance your priorities as a dad.

3. Think you’re too busy? Then, read this great post by Tim Grahl. He says, “Instead of the word ‘busy,’ let’s use ‘prioritizing my time.'” Admit what you’re going to cut. It’s liberating.

YOUR NEXT HILL

Listen better. In what ways are you not listening well to your heavenly father? How is He trying to get your attention and give you instruction, but you’re turning it down? Through His word, a friend, your wife, or a good or bad life circumstance? When we’re listening to God, we’re in a much better position to tell our kids to listen to us.

Make it a great week,
