Proverbs 24:3 says, By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established. So, if you’re going to be a godly husband and dad, you’ll need wisdom and understanding. How do you get those two things? Let’s unpack them both.

#1 Wisdom. By wisdom a house is built… What’s wisdom? Best definition I’ve found? Wisdom is alignment with God’s will. I recently heard a pastor who had served in ministry for over 50 years say, “The world loves knowledge, but is confused…” Wisdom is more than knowing a few facts about a subject. Wisdom is experience and constant aligning of your decisions with God’s will. Wisdom implies knowing His Word. The wise husband/dad is invested in God’s Word—letting Him change your perspective on work, marriage, and how you engage with your kids.

#2 Understanding. …and by understanding it is established. Understanding is the outgrowth of applying wisdom over time. Understanding implies you’ve been there before. This ain’t your first rodeo. Imagine the kid who grows up with a dad who walks around doling out understanding that’s not found in this world. Seems like a nice, study, and secure way to grow up, huh. The storms and stress of this world don’t break you down. Your kids grow up with a godly peace and safety because you live with it—not because you’re so strong—but because you walk with the One who invented strength.

As you search for wisdom, the only place to start is with a firm foundation on God’s Word. In today’s episode, we look at the ways Scripture personifies Wisdom, what it means to build your life on the Rock, and how all of this applies to being a godly dad.
