Sound Familiar?

You got laid off, and suddenly you didn’t know who you were anymore.

Someone’s words stuck, and you’ve quietly believed them ever since.

You’ve followed Christ for years, but your identity still feels up for grabs.

You know your identity should be in Christ. You just can’t seem to live like it is.

Identity is Received, Not Built.

Meet Ethan, a driven professional whose world unravels the day he’s fired. As he wrestles with questions he never expected, a trusted mentor hands him a deceptively simple idea: your identity isn’t something you build. It’s something you receive.

Through Ethan’s story, Kent Evans introduces the Identity Bucket, a practical, biblical framework for understanding where identity really comes from and what doesn’t belong in it.

How to use the idea in a sermon or keynote. Watch this example.

What The Identity Bucket Gives You:

Find your identity in Christ.

Through Ethan’s story, you’ll see yourself, the way success, failure, and other people’s opinions quietly pile up inside your Identity Bucket.

Freedom from the past.

The Identity Bucket metaphor is easy to explain to everyone, from your kids to your small group. You’ll learn three mistakes we all make and how to fix them.

Remove false identities.

When God alone fills your Identity Bucket, the job loss doesn’t define you. The bad season doesn’t own you. You’ll learn to guard your identity.

Here’s How We Often Get Identity Wrong.

Excess Quantity

We fill our Identity Bucket with things that don’t belong: job titles, personality types, past mistakes, other people’s opinions, and the labels we pick up along the way.

Low Quality

We let lies define us. “I’m stupid.” “I’m a failure.” “I’m not enough.” We say “I am” and attach things God never said, allowing false labels to shape how we see ourselves.

Wrong Access

We hand the keys to our Identity Bucket to the wrong people: coaches, critics, bosses, social media, and anyone whose opinions slowly begin to shape how we see ourselves.

Only God gets to make deposits. This book shows you how to live like you believe that.

And Many More Leaders Agree.

“Finding true answers to who you are and who God is will transform everything. I trust Kent because he’s honest, direct, and trusts God’s truth more than himself.”

FAQ

No. It’s not only for Christians. However, it relies completely on the Bible as it’s source of truth. If you’re a Bible believing Christian, you’ll resonate with the message instantly. If you’re not a Christian, but you’re curious about identity through a Christian lens, we’d welcome your critical eye.

Not really. We believe God is our creator. And, we believe the Bible is His authoritative and infallible word. As such, this book focuses exclusively on the message of the Bible regarding our identity in Christ.

No. The main emphasis of the book is simply that God created us, and He has full ownership and authorship of our identity. We believe He created us male and female, that there are two sexes, and each represents the image of God.

Both, actually. Each chapter features a fictional story about a man named Ethan who’s having a bit of an identity crisis. We follow his search for clarity and strength. Then, each chapter includes teaching from the author that complements the storyline.

Not really. It could best be described as taking a “non-denominational” approach to the subject of our identity in Christ. Endorsers and reviewers of the book have come from a wide array of Christians.

You bet. We’ve seen interest from churches, organizations, small group leaders and coaches who want to help those in their circles fully embrace their God-given identity. You can learn more about pricing for small bulk orders here. And, if you’d like a larger order, you can contact us at info@manhoodjourney.org.

Absolutely. In fact, in the last chapter of the book, we describe how to teach these concepts in your home, or at your church or in your workplace. We hope this book and the related tools help you to spark meaningful dialogue on identity.

Your Identity Isn’t Up for Debate.

God gave it to you. Now it’s time to live like it.
