I talked recently on this blog about what FIGHT NIGHT is, but why should it matter to you? In this post, I’ll unpack why this partnership between Manhood Journey and the Middle School Ministry of Southeast Christian Church (SECC) in Louisville, KY is important—not only for dads in Louisville—but for every single dad reading this post.

We’ve been clear from the start of planning FIGHT NIGHT that we’re dedicated to helping fathers fight for their sons in today’s culture. We have a simple goal: Launch 50 Manhood Journey Groups that will last 6 weeks this fall in Louisville.

But why should you care? Especially if you don’t live in Louisville?

When we surveyed you, our reader, the #1 single biggest challenge to you as a dad was that you felt like a failure. Most of you, Christian, church-going dads, believe you’re failing, somewhat or completely, on everything from providing financially, to discipline, to how you spend your time

Now, maybe you aren’t failing as bad as Kent in this video, or maybe you are.

Can’t see the video? Click here.

Like Kent’s  b-ball skills (and that headband, whew!) in the above video, there’s a hashtag for this. It’s called #failure. But, as a dad, you cannot continue to walk around feeling like a failure. This is why FIGHT NIGHT matters to every dad reading this post. Every dad must fight failure.

Fighting against failure as a dad is why Manhood Journey exists. This is why we do anything and everything we do. It’s why we talk about Identifying and Destroying Obstacles, and why we set you up with father-son Bible studies and events like this one. Understand, for you to feel like a failure, one of two things must be happening:

#1) Your feeling is ACCURATE on some level. You’ve been failing and need help.

OR

#2) Your feeling is NOT ACCURATE. You’re just feeling like a failure and need help.

Which one is it?

I don’t want you looking back on your time as a dad and wondering a one dad’s response on our survey saying, “Did I do enough…?” Imagine not having to wonder. Imagine, with God’s help, humbly taking comfort in knowing you did all you could do to raise godly sons. I don’t know about you, but this motivates me.

Sure, as Kent often says, “There’s not a perfect-father formula.” But, if you struggle with feeling like a failure as a dad, we need to pump the brakes and spend time here. Here’s a couple of things you can do right now. You don’t have to drive or fly to Louisville to do these things. There’s more ideas to combat failure as dad in our State of Biblical Fatherhood. And we’re going to combat this more at FIGHT NIGHT.

But, for now, here are two tips you start today:

  1. Admit your mistakes and ask for apologies, frequently. One key reason guilt goes along for the ride is because we don’t stop to unpack it. When you blow it, admit it to those you’ve offended, and ask them to forgive you. At least this way, you only carry around your most recent mistakes! : )
  2. Don’t wallow around in your failure, move on. If you’re a believer in Christ, Romans 8:1-2 tells us, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Live in this truth.

Why FIGHT NIGHT?

FIGHT NIGHT wants to give every dad the opportunity to experience a “win” in this fight by doing the following with their son for one night:

  1. Get the confidence you need to fight for your son—not with fists—but with the words and actions of your heart.
  2. We want to help you realize your potential to disciple your own son even if you don’t feel like a “spiritual giant”.
  3. This is more than just an event. We want to give you your first big win in that fight.
