This very first episode will be all about the intention of the podcast and an introduction of your host, Kent Evans, and co-host, Lawson Brown. Kent is a lifelong resident of Louisville, Kentucky, has five sons ages 6-21, and is celebrating his 26th wedding anniversary with his wife. Lawson himself has two daughters, ages 20 and 23, and has been married to his wife, Audrey, for 25 years. Lawson and Kent have known each other for over 2 decades.
Father On Purpose is a podcast aimed towards fathers who hope to provide their children with more than just basic life skills. Ken and Lawson’s intent is to help dads be disciple-makers and help their own kids find and live out a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ. Rather than being deeply theological, the show will consist of a real, down-to-earth conversation with honesty and transparency at the forefront.
Manhood Journey is a ministry based in Louisville that produces resources to help dads disciple father-son journeys. About a year ago, they added a new branch called Father On Purpose, centered around Godly fatherhood with sons or daughters. According to feedback and their analysis, Manhood Journey has determined the top challenges fathers face: time, communication, not knowing where to begin, setting the right example, procrastination, anger, and having big intentions. These are just a few of the topics we will be tackling together in the future of this show.
In line with identifying their aspirations for the podcast, Kent and Lawson then share a few things they hope to stray away from. Lawson hopes to be open and inclusive and leave listeners feeling inspired. Kent warns that their conversations won’t come from a place of preachiness or talking down to people. It also won’t be about raising “good” kids, but spiritual and Godly ones. As a father, you aren’t just raising a kid, but future men, leaders, and husbands.
As the episode wraps up, Kent wants to reiterate their two main hopes for all dads listening. First, they want to encourage you as a father, entertain you and challenge you to lean into your marriage and kids. We hope this podcast will help you in your journey.
Thank you for listening!
