APPLY SCRIPTURE

It’s called “the pause.” Viktor Frankl talked about the space between stimulus and response. In that space, you have the power to choose your reaction. As a husband/dad/leader, recognizing this pause is crucial. Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” There’s always a moment to PAUSE and do the next thing as an act of worship. Let’s unpack this.

#1 Whatever you do… I’ve done the deep dive. Whatever in the Greek means—are you ready?—WHATEVER. It’s a biblical term for, well, everything. As a husband/dad, think about all the work, serving your wife, engaging with your kids, chores—yep, EVERYTHING. None of it escapes your calling to submit to God. That’s the responsibility—obedience to Him.

#2 …Work heartily… Heart means many things in Scripture. The idea is that you work from your heart/mind/soul—you do all the whatever you’re gonna do—from the heart. How you do things matters. You’re called to live intentionally with your life—work, family, hobbies.

#3 …as for the Lord and not for men. Live with the constant awareness that you’re working for God. You don’t show up because of money, power, or popularity. You work for Him—He’s your reward. No one owns you, not your boss or that opinionated friend—they aren’t God. God knows your heart and motivations. When you do everything for Him, you can live fearlessly. Why? Because fearing God is the only way to not fear anything or anyone else.

Doing Whatever. Maybe you haven’t yet experienced work and life fully lived for God. Up until now, maybe you haven’t shown your wife and kids this kind of faithfulness. The good news is, it’s not too late—God can transform you. Your calling is to show your kids how to work, serve, and lead faithfully.

How you handle every task reflects how you’ll show God to them. In that next moment, how will you do it? Will it point them to Him?
