APPLY SCRIPTURE
Psalm 112:1-4 paints a picture of what every dad should be—steady, generous, and faithful. When you take God’s Word seriously, you do what He says. These verses can help you lead your home with calm and clarity.
#1 Fear the Lord, delight in His Word (v. 1). Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!
A godly dad fears the Lord. Applied personally, you have a reverence—a respect—for God that motivates you to do what He says. Why? Because you’ve been transformed by His powerful grace. You’ve seen Him work in the past. You’re excited to follow Him. It’s not dread but delight in Him that carries you.
Do you delight in God’s Word?
#2 Build a legacy of faithful strength (v. 2). His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
The godly dad’s life isn’t private—it gets noticed and passes to future generations. No, your kids can’t magically inherit your faith, but because you follow Jesus—your family is blessed. Your kids see the gospel, know Scripture, hear prayer, and live with a Christlike example at home. When many dads are absent—you’re present, engaged, and ready. You can change generations with your example of humility, honesty, and consistency.
What does your family see from you most—panic and frustration—or the calm of a dad who trusts God?
#3 Reflect God’s light in a dark world (vv. 3-4). Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.
The godly dad works diligently and has tons of cash… not necessarily. The idea is more about working hard AND trusting God. You plow—God makes it rain. In dark and confusing times, you point your family to God and His grace.
Does your family see you in your own strength or calmly trusting God while you work?

TAKE ACTION
Steady Strength. Psalm 112 shows that the godly dad has respect for God, steady spiritual growth, and reflects God’s grace in a dark world.
Reflect: Which of these traits—reverence, steadiness, or compassion—does your family most need to see from you right now, and what’s one action that will help you show it?
Pray: God, thank You for calling me to lead my family with Your strength, not my own. Help me lead my home as an example of Your peace and presence. Help me live so that my wife and children see not my perfection (ha!) but Your presence in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
