What if success isn’t the goal? Hang with me. Aren’t we always measuring life by performance? Promotions, financial gains over last month, whatever. Joshua points to something deeper: faithfulness. Joshua 1:8 says, This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. So, let’s get clear on what faithfulness looks like.

#1 Knowing God’s Word. Joshua had battles—but God gave him His Word. Meditate isn’t about emptying your mind—but about filling it with God and His Word. Knowing God’s Word is the foundation of faithfulness.

#2 Doing what it says. In the Old Testament, to meditate meant to focus on God, His works, and His Word—out loud. That’s why God told Joshua to keep the law on his lips. Speaking it helped him obey it. It’s tough to be faithful if you don’t have the discipline to live it out by His grace.

#3 Doing it consistently for life. Scripture never ties success to money. Job lost everything yet found peace before wealth returned. Joshua’s call? Obey God’s Word. Joshua’s strength wasn’t in physical strength, but in obedience. God isn’t looking for self-confident men; He’s looking for the man who leans on Him. Seek Him. Stay faithful—do that for life.

Write or say Joshua 1:8 every day. Keep it in front of you. Let success be faithfulness—and live in the freedom that comes from following Him.
