LOOKING UP
Proverbs 1:5 says, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning, a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel” (NASB). That word: acquire. It means “to go and get.” Often, it’s used in Scripture to mean “purchase” (Potiphar bought Joseph, Joseph bought land, Boaz bought people and land, etc). When’s the last time you bought yourself some wise counsel? It’ll probably only cost you the price of a cup of coffee. Heck, these days, you can just ZOOM with the guy. Let him buy his own coffee. Acquire wise counsel.

Being a godly dad is risky. It’s a jungle out there (and in “here,” if you catch my drift). Lotsa challenges dads face. Do we really know what it takes to be godly dads? How you doing? Here are seven behaviors that all godly fathers have in common.
ALONG THE TRAIL
1. I’m enjoying 101 Things Great Dads Do by Jay Payleitner. I’ve met Jay, chatted on the phone with him. Funny, humble, real. Get his book.
2. My fave curated playlist for morning quiet time. Michele McLaughlin, Helen Jane Long, bring it! Open on Spotify.
3. Free virtual event alert: Join me for this special event happening on Tuesday, January 26th at 7PM EST. I’ll be with Mark Hancock, Trail Life USA’s CEO, talking about 7 must-have tools every dad needs for his journey.
4. Matt from Decatur, Georgia sent us an encouraging (but half-right) email. He said, “Just wanted to let you know that I’m really enjoying your videos, and I appreciate the touch of humor. I’m sure glad you were called to do this b/c it’s exactly what I’ve been needing to get refocused on Christ.” Matt, we’re pumped you’re refocusing on Christ! But, only a “touch” of humor? Whatever. Clearly, you’re not watching them closely.
YOUR NEXT HILL
Try apologizing to your kids. I’m sure you’ve done something worth asking forgiveness. My most recent one: getting all up in my teen son’s face when he got outta line. He got outta line, so then, I did too? I’m a goofball. He graciously forgave me.
Have an unapologetically great week,

Forward this to a dad you know who needs some encouragement.
