APPLY SCRIPTURE

“When adversity knocks, open the door and trust God. He’s there,” explained Darren Walter, my friend and Lead Pastor at Current Church in Katy, Texas. Sadly, most of us will experience trials at some point in life. Pastor Darren understands this reality all too well. His insights struck me as we talked. Romans 15:13 says: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Joy/peace—you and I can’t muster these things up by ourselves—they come from God. He is your hope. You can have joy/peace ONLY as you hope/trust in God. You can apply this to being a better husband in two ways. #1 Treasure your wife. Darren pointed out that after his wife’s passing, he underestimated the gift of their intimacy—not just physical—but being known by someone—this person knows what you’re thinking. Consider: If you lost your wife today, would you regret taking her for granted? Let this insight change your interactions today. Be joyful in the blessing of your wife. Don’t take her for granted #2 Thank your wife. Thank your wife for the things she does in your marriage/home/family. Darren explained that he underestimated the volume of his wife’s daily work. From school events to small tasks, her efforts were immense. I bet your wife’s efforts are immense too. There is peace in Christ—and peace in appreciating your wife. Thank your wife today, for everything she does. Trust me on this.

TAKE ACTION

Lean in. Lean into your inadequacies and let God’s strength take over. Stop trying to handle everything on your own. You can’t meet every need of your family. And you don’t have to. That’s not your calling. God is all those things. God is your strength. He’s also your family’s strength. Trust Him to be strong. Let God do His work and stay out of the way. Let your family see God working through you. This week, focus on pointing your family to Him, allowing His power to shine through your actions.
