Proverbs 25:13,14,25,26 explains the power of words. As a dad, you have the power to bring life to your kids. #1 Keeping your word is powerful. Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters (Prov. 25:13). v13 is about bringing ice/snow down the mountain during hot seasons. Keeping your word refreshes/restores/settles the mind of your kid. #2 Don’t make promises you can’t keep. Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give (Prov. 25:14)You need rain. You see a cloud. But the rain never drops. Don’t be the dad who promises Disney and never delivers. Empty promises make disappointed kids. #3 When you speak, bring encouragement. Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country (Prov. 25:25). Your kid won’t ask for it, but he craves encouragement. Like cold water to his soul, encourage your son and he will hear you. #4 The word is dark, bring light. Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked (Prov. 25:26). Pure water is refreshing; dirty water, not so much. Consider the believer who says one thing yet does another. His example disappoints. When what you say and what you do match up, you bring light. Resist Satan’s pull. Set the standard as a dad. Be faithful to God.
