APPLY SCRIPTURE

When your kid asks you something, where do you point? Maybe you point to Siri/Alexa/ChatGPT, google search, or “how your dad did it.” With the important questions, you should point to God and His Word. Fine print: You’ll need to know God’s Word to point to it. Our second tool for godly dad survival is to KNOW SCRIPTURE. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness (2 Tim. 3: 16). All Scripture is useful because it’s breathed out by God—it’s from God—it’s His authoritative Word over all people. Scripture has 3 big benefits: #1 TEACHING: Scripture is useful for knowing the right things. Examples for you: doctrine like creation (Gen. 1:1-5), sin (Gen. 3:1-7), and salvation (Isa. 53:5)—to name a few—will be crucial for knowing what matters in life and teaching it to your kid. #2 REPROOF, REBUKE, CORRECTION: Scripture points out sin, confronts disobedience, and corrects those who might stray, guiding them back to obedience and restoring them to God. Scripture is useful for fixing wrong things. #3 TRAINING: Scripture instructs in faithful living and requires discipline. It not only reveals the wrong you’ve done, it guides you to grow and trains you in transforming your life. Scripture is useful for showing you how to do the right things.

TAKE ACTION

More benefits. How about more benefits of knowing Scripture! Complete and equipped sounds pretty good right?! …that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3:17). Reminder: Right teaching leads to right living. The enemy wants to make you distracted or doubtful, just enough to NOT dig into Scripture. Satan doesn’t want you to know God’s Word. He’ll have you thinking Scripture’s a boring textbook when it’s the life-giving Word of God. Take time to consider just how useful Scripture is for living well. Now go live it out this week.
