Proverbs 12 teaches us about the righteous and the wicked. We must be faithful to walk in righteousness. We must remove wickedness from our lives constantly. As a follower of Christ, a husband, and a father you must walk in righteousness rather than wickedness. #1 Follower. A good man obtains favor from the Lord, but a man of evil devices he condemns (Prov. 12:2). The wicked man only wants to keep control. He forgets that God is always in control. The wicked man can’t be trusted, because he’s never trying to please God. As a follower of Christ, your house is secure, because you understand that God secures it. Pray and ask Him to show you if there’s anything wicked in you or your home. #2 Husband. No ill befalls the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble (Prov. 12:21). God promises that harm doesn’t come to the righteous man, while the wicked man is promised trouble. Talk with your wife about whether there’s anything sinful in you or your family’s life that should be removed. #3 Father. In the path of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death (Prov. 12:28). The dad who is righteous in Christ gives life to his kids. Your words and your actions give life rather than death. You’re a blessing to your kids. If asked, would your kid describe you as wicked or righteous? Why?

GAIN INSIGHT

“Against the backdrop of people who avoid work, cut corners, and do half-hearted jobs, a diligent man stands out. Practicing diligence is an excellent way to stand out for Christ at home, in the workplace, and even at church. Today, complete each one of your tasks, however big or small, with diligence.” —David Jeremiah.

“Prefer diligence before idleness, unless you esteem rust above brightness.” —Plato.

“Work is doing it. Discipline is doing it every day. Diligence is doing it well every day.” —Dave Ramsey.

“The most useful members of a church are usually those who would be doing harm if they were not doing good.” —C. H. Spurgeon.

TAKE ACTION

Diligence above all. In Proverbs 12 diligence is praised above results. Your job as a dad is to be faithful. Being faithful means you may never see the results, but you keep plowing and planting. The diligent husband and dad can say, “Follow me as I follow Christ.” Your wife and kids will at least not be able to call you a hypocrite! As you’ve heard, more is caught than taught. You must be diligent in being a follower of God, a husband to your wife, and a father to your kids. Kent Evans
