Are you an angry dad? Let’s talk.

Dads tell us anger is a big deal. Let’s explore ways to remove it from our hearts and homes. Anger is not to be trifled with. It’s like a fire that can burn our relationships and witness for Christ. Let’s explore some tools and insights to stop anger before it damages your life.

Facing the damage anger can cause.

We’ve surveyed thousands of dads. Many of them tell us anger is their number one enemy. It’s one of their biggest struggles. Maybe you can relate. It’s the frustration that sneaks up, spills over, and leaves a path of sadness and destruction.

For the dad who wants to disciple his family in Christ, anger can be a massive obstacle. Let’s explore how we can remove it together.

Why am I so angry

When anger takes over, everything suffers.

Do you walk around at 211?

Anger doesn’t always erupt out of nowhere. Often, it’s simmering. Just below the surface. We’re already walking around at 211-degrees, and just one small thing can tempt us to hit the boiling point.

It may be something tiny. A sharp word at home. A tense moment at work. Or, that stoplight that “makes us late”.

The problem is us and our simmering hearts. We need our temperature reduced. We need to look under the hood and check our resting heart temp.

The good news: we can do this. God’s Word and His Spirit will guide us and bring fresh, cool water to our hearts and minds.

  • The Bible is filled with warnings about anger. While “righteous anger” does have its place, God’s Word usually emphasizes the dangers of losing our tempers, as well as the damage it does to our relationships.

Think your anger is “righteous”? Unlikely.

Many dads know only one verse on anger: Ephesians 4:26, “Be angry and do not sin.” So we assume, “Anger is ok, it’s what we do in our anger that is sin.”

But look closer:

  • Just a verse later, Paul warns that anger gives the devil a foothold (Eph. 4:27).
  • He also tells us to put anger away (Eph. 4:31).
  • Elsewhere, anger is listed alongside jealousy, idolatry, and malice (2 Cor. 12:20; Gal. 5:20; Col. 3:8).

We’d never say, “Idolatry is ok. It’s what you do in your idolatry that is harmful.”

Don’t be fooled. Most anger isn’t righteous, it’s destructive. Don’t manage it. Remove it
